Flood Proofing WASH Programme is aimed at introducing flood resistant water, sanitation and hygiene structures. Almost every year, hundreds of families are rendered homeless due to severe floods that destroy their houses, latrines, wells and hand pumps. One of the most dangerous impacts of flooding is the damage to non-permanent latrines (which are used by the majority), leading to contamination of the flood and drinking water. Communities suffer serious gastro and diarrheal diseases, in a time where access to a doctor is limited. During floods wells, tube wells and hand pumps get sub-merged during floods. Every year during floods, desperate villagers end up drinking turbid floodwater. The floods inundate all the wells ,tube wells and hand pumps. The result is widespread illnesses and even deaths.
